Be extremely weary of this agency. They are advertising themselves as providing psychiatric services when in fact, they only have a nurse practitioner with no doctor on site. This is illegal in the state of Florida. The law states that a nurse practitioner can not diagnose, treat, or prescribe medications without the oversight of a doctor. My pcp referred me here for my narcotic prescriptions and possibly counseling. When I called and made the appointment, It was known the particular medications. At no time did the office staff disclose that they did not have a psychiatrist. I attended my appointment with my ppo insurance and 20 dollar copay, only to speak to a counselor. My intention was to see the doctor and receive my prescriptions that a certified psychiatrist from the state in which I moved from, had prescribed 2 years earlier. I left the meeting and was told that I would have to make a separate appointment with the "doctor " to receive those scripts. Once again, it was made aware of what medications I was on, and still they omitted that their office did not provide a certified doctor. Creating quite a fuss about the situation to the staff, I made another appointment to do this. Again, I show up and have to pay another 20 dollar copay. Oddly, the staff mentioned that their were no nurses due to the holiday, which I thought was strange because why would she mention that. I was greeted by a young woman named Stephanie. I commented on how young she was to be a doctor, only to find out she was a nurse practitioner. In my mind, I thought the staff said there was no nurses. So she began to ask me standard questions and then about my medication and making snide comments about their effectiveness. In a way as if my condition did not require those medications. And before you know it, the meeting is over and I left feeling deceived and misled as this unqualified professional was treating me and diagnosing issues that a qualified doctor had already done. I became furious and confronted the office manager about the deception of their office. What they are doing is against the law and they are profiting from people unknowledgeable about process and procedure of the healthcare system. As I stated earlier, the state of Florida nurse practitioners are restricted in diagnosing, treating, and prescribing medication unless overseen by a doctor. The office manager stated their has never been a doctor in that office, and when asked for referral of a psychiatrist, I was given numbers to totally different offices.
