It was really beautiful fort to walk around. It was extremely hot the day we visited, so no Ranger led tours. We took the paper guide and read through the things we wanted to learn about. I highly recommend it to anyone.
Fort Barrancas is a phenomenal multi-national American historic site as it has been occupied by Spain, France, England, the Confederacy, and the United States. In 1559, Spain established a settlement in Florida on Pensacola Bay but the site was abandoned soon afterward. Spaniards revived the settlement in 1698, surrendered it to the French in 1719, regained it by treaty in 1722, ceded it to the English in 1763, and repossessed it by force in 1781. From 1839–1844, the historic Spanish fort on the hill was reconstructed. The US deactivated Fort Barrancas on April 15, 1947, following World War II.
Nice fort to check. Its more in the historical end than architectural. When i went, it was self guided tour. The fort doesn’t have elaborative information at each interest point. Still worth it to check for the location and history.
Great historical landmark and extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff!
It was boring the staff was so mean I was looking at the barrack and he told me to get out of the area and go home I’m never going there again.
