I attended Newpoint my Sophomore year (2012). My first impression was that this is a work in progress and it'll take time to improve. But as the year went on I saw no change in the environment or the teaching. It was a "do whatever you want" environment. And those that worked at their own pace, really worked at their own pace and got behind. When I decided to leave Newpoint for my Junior year, I reflected on how much I didn't learn as a student. Teachers didn't motivate as they should've and it all just seemed like a joke. I didn't realize how bad Newpoint was until I left. It opened my eyes and made me realize that this isn't what I want, and it wont help me get anywhere.
Newpoint was, and I'm saying this in the kindest way I know how, the WORST school I've ever attended. I started attending about halfway through my Freshman year, when the school was still located on Moreno Street. I had friends that went there, so that was an automatic plus for me, and as an "incentive", it is a "learn at your own pace" school. What I didn't know was, after about a month of being there, I realized that "learn at your own pace" meant, "learn completely by yourself, and don't expect help from the teachers." The teachers are basically paid babysitters, VERY few are actually qualified to teach the subject they're teaching. A lot of the teachers have bad tempers, so don't get them mad. The administration also has (or at least, had, when I was there), cracks in that foundation. The "guidance counselor" scared everyone she came into contact with, she bullied people relentlessly, including myself. I continued attending there, however, in hopes that the school would get better (spoiler alert, it didn't), when they moved to Pensacola Blvd. Half the teachers I had at Moreno Street no longer were teaching at Newpoint when my sophomore year began, and the teachers I had at the new building were no longer doing anything for the students at all, basically they would stand up and lecture for a few minutes, then sit down and play games on their phones. I would also like to point out that Apex is a flawed system. You learn nothing from typing your homework questions into google. I'm sorry. There were students that plagiarized papers from online essay sites, and none of the teachers ever did anything about it. People keep saying, "Oh its only been 3-4 years since the school has opened, give them time, etc". It shouldn't take this much time to figure out that your system doesn't work. I wouldn't recommend going there to my worst enemy. When I left there, I ended up having to drop out because from an educational standpoint, I was too far behind in math and other subjects to be able to catch up. Don't make the same mistake I did. Go to an actual high school with actual teachers.

I love it here this is the best school I've been to I don't know why people are say it's bad when i enjoyed
newpoint wasn't the best school, but it gave students a safe haven from bullying and it helped children with social needs such as anti-socialism and axiety.
my years of being here!
Sincerely,
I have attended Newpoint from my freshmen year (when it first opened) until my junior year (2014). The first year, "So excited to go to a technology school, its a little rough but it is new, give it time." The second year, "Things look like they are trying to improve, however, I don't see it." Third year, "I can't be here any longer, I need a place where they take my education seriously, not just hire permanent babysitters who aren't qualified." Newpoint's vision is good, and this COULD be a great school, it just isn't. It lacks strong and positive leadership. It's worth a try, depending on how it gets in the future. A little word of advice, if you get accepted into West Florida, GO, then shadow at Newpoint or transfer later if you don't like it. That's what I should have done. Newpoint tries to do as much as they can with a little bit of money, they overwhelm teachers with a variety of classes and the environment is unsanitary. hope this helps!
